Aloe mitriformis Miller (1768)

DESCRIPTION: very variable taxon, branching at base and above, forming dense sprawling groups, procumbent stem ca 1-2 m long, 6 cm thick, leaves dense rosulate, incurved, 20x10-15 cm, tip a single or bifid spine, epidermis glaucous green, sometimes with spots, lower surface with short, spiny apical keel. Inflorescence 40-60 cm tall, 2-5 branches, Capitate racemes, scarlet flowers.

DISTRIBUTION: RSA. Western Cape. Distribution from northern end Bokkeveld Plateau to near Caledon.
CULTIVATION: easy to grow
