Aloe esculenta ML. C. Leach (1971)

DESCRIPTION: stemless or with short stem, suckering to form dense clumps. Leaves in tight rosette, lanceolate, 40-50 cm long and 7 cm width. Epidermis white spotted. Inflorescence up 150cm tall, 3-5 widely spreading branches. Flowers deep pink, yellowish with age. Flowering time June-August.
DISTRIBUTION: Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe
CULTIVATION: For a robustness of plants is grown limited. Very easy cultivated in sandy soil. Leaves of this species are often confused with those of A. littoralis although more greyish/green in colour whilst growing and not as straight once matured. Flowers vary in colour from light to deep pink, blooming in their thousands between June and August. White leaf spots are permanent.
